November already!

Well I've really fallen behind in my postings again.  Looks like another addition to the "Next year I'll really ....." list for New Years.

I've decided to participate in the ART EVERY DAY project that so many have joined this November.  If I'm making art every day, I don't really have to post.....I think that is the point.  I have done art every day this month.  Several fun projects with my scraps have yielded some great coasters for the etsy shop.  Lots of ATC cards for a boutique next month and a day in the wet studio painting trees for the wedding next month.   Photos coming!

YIKES!   Did I just say next month!  This morning on the radio when I opened my eyes, the dj, said 50 days left in 2009...that means 50 days left until the wedding!  I have LOTS of things to do before then.....not to mention the holidays.

Fast Friday Fabric Challenge Group

I have joined the Fast Friday Fabric Challenge group from the QuiltArt list.  Wow!  That's a mouthfull!  This is a group of talented art quilters who stretch themselves with a challenge on the fourth Friday of the month.  You have one week to complete and post your work. They only take new members once a year and this year, I got in!  First challenge is this week!

Deadlines...yikes.  What was I thinking!  I hate deadlines.  Haven't missed them at all since I quit teaching dancers.  I have lots of ideas floating around but NO work done.  I tried to comment on the work already done by the "go getters" and it won't connect right.  Too many email accounts messed up with the goggle accounts perhaps.  Who knows.  But I will complete this...I will.

Cracked Paper Quilts

Hey, just read several articles on Cracked Paper Quilts and it seems So You Say, (see previous post) is a Cracked paper quilt; who knew?   The top is made from mostly art papers that I created in a workshop with Traci Bautista at the IQF Long Beach convention in July.

I stayed with my dd and her honey so I thought they were appropriate to use in the band's piece.  Class was awesome and I will be applying the techniques I learned to future pieces.

Simply, the permission to play seemed to be her main idea.  No rules really except those that govern all good art technique.  Line, color, value, shape, and texture.  but she gave us the permission to just "see what happens when..."

This is so necessary for my psyche now cause I am tending to think only on the finished product and not the process.  That thought process really gets in my way

Good Grief...September

I really need to focus!  September is here already and the sales party is less than 30 days away.  I need to get crackin on the inventory or drop out.  Cozies, art scarves and small mixed media pieces will be the focus using my own art cloth.  Photos will have to come later.

I hate taking pictures because I suck at it!  They all look flat.  Bad lighting.   I know they need fixed but I don't have the patience or the time now to get them up to snuff.  I need a photographer who is willing to work cheap!  They don't exist.

Enough ranting....here is the very bad photo of the mixed media piece done for the Rally for One CD release party.  The band commissioned pieces to be done for each of their new songs and they were raffled off at the party.  My song was So You Say, chosen for me by my daughter cause she is singing background vocals.  My dd's honey is the drummer.  John is just the best and we wish them all the success they deserve.

Needs a boost

This new little blog needs a boost...some creative juice. Maybe next week.

I haven't had time to post since I finished the quilt for the Breaking Traditions Art Quilt Exhibit in Michigan. This show is run by Lynn Krawczyk and this year all proceeds from entry fees go to Bernie Berlin's "A Place to Bark" pet rescue in Tennessee. This is a one woman show that takes in and cares for unwanted and abused dogs and cats. Check them out and consider your own donation. Thanks Lynn for all you do.

My entry this year is entitled "Home is Near Reese" Home is the theme and considering that my daughter wants to have her own pet rescue some day, her dog Reese seemed the perfect subject. She told me not long after the theme was announced that she never really felt like she had a "home" out in Cali where she lives until she adopted her baby, Reese. He was a rescued puppy of suspect parentage and the apple of her eye. This little quilt is hers when it makes it back from it's trip to Michigan.

Moving

Moving my blog to a new address. fiberbendrz....find me....it will be worth it!

New Blog!

I have created a new blog with the corrected spelling of my web page. My old blog, fiberbenders, used the original spelling of my mom's and my little fiber business. I have had a website with this spelling; fiberbendrz for a few years and thought they should match. More to come....

Another piece for Charity

This is Growth II. It is the second in a series I've been working on. I rather like this. I've been contacted to submit a small piece for a charity auction for a toddler in Kearney, Ne fighting a dangerous lung condition. This is the piece I will send.
Sounds like his family has a fight on their hands and I am only too happy to help. I hope it brings in a lot of money for the cause.

And to be fair, here is the picture of DD and her SO John with their baby, Reese. He is my first grandog and I love him too.

My New Baby Boy

Well he's not as new as all that. Zeus is 18 weeks old and growing alot everyday. He joins his big sister,Skye, short for Blue Skye who is almost 7 years old and the constant companion of my DH. I was lonely around the house without Duke, who we lost last spring at the age of 15. He was my Christmas gift, and I adore him.

He has a friend in my son's new puppy, Derby. He is a beautiful black lab with excellent hunting lines and lots of energy.

Fiberart for a Cause-Collage Mania

This is my entry for the Collage Mania, hosted by Virginia Spiegel through Fiberart For A Cause. See the others here:
Bidding begins in May.

It is entitled "Growth" and honors my father in law, Jim Baldwin who passed away 4 years ago this April from skin cancer. He was always planting "seeds" among his children and grandchildren that are only now sprouting. Thanks Grandad!

6 Months later

Well.....many things have changed in the last six months.

My MIL has been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. We have a new puppy, long haired german shephard boy named Zeus. He will be HUGE and I just adore him. My niece is to be married in June and wedding plans for my son are in full swing.

Busy with many new ideas for the wet studio that will be finished this spring out in our storage building near my husbands office. I will be working at the studio in the morning and for him in the afternoons, when they need me. Can't wait to get it finished.

This new chance to get my hands dirty will facilitate my development of my new classes. I've been asked to teach a sewing class...whatever that means. don't know whether I want to or not yet. Need to spend more time in my our studio first.

This years goals are in writing for the fist time so maybe I will be better at reaching some of the. I'm so easily distracted right now. I purchased two books on organization for the creative brain. This should help.

Working on taxes is next.
